attention, journalism students!

May 14, 2008 by Ryan Mann Staff Writer

I’m assuming that the reason people want to major in journalism is because they want to work for news organizations and uncover big stories. You may be able to uncover big stories, but if you work for one of the “mainstream” organizations, the stories will be limited by what the boss wants to have covered. For example, you won’t hear much about the North American Union on CNN, Fox, or the evening news. This is because these “mainstream” media networks are controled by large corporations who benefit from the military industrial complex and organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations. These “mainstream media” networks are also controled, in part, by the United States government it’sself. For example, before the war in Iraq, the Pentagon planted so-called military experts onto these “mainstream” media networks. That was done in order to get the American people to support the war. Since all of this is the case, it’s safe to assume that these “mainstream” media networks can’t be relied on for the truth. If this is true, then why should an honest person like me bother going into journalism? The answer is because there are alternatives to the “mainstream” media organizations. These alternative organizations are happy to have honest journalists working for them. A few of them are listed below.

I’m proud of my insanity

May 13, 2008 by Ryan Mann Staff Writer

I have a mental illness. However, I don’t want any treatment for this illness. In fact, I like this illness so much that I try to spread it to other people whenever I get the opportunity. The symptomes of this illness are below.
1. the belief that a lot of the federal government agencies in the United States are unnecessary.
2. the belief that the United States should have a humble foreign policy.
3. the belief that the federal reserve is the cause of America’s current economic situation.
Well, I think those are the basic symptomes of my mental illness. How is this a mental illness you may be asking? Well, I don’t know. You <should ask the people who commented on this blog. One person said that people who donated to Ron Paul’s campaign are nuts. If this is what somebody does when they are nuts, then I like it.

Big Business Loves Big Government.

Quote of the Day:

“Why not take advantage of the clever Downsize DC system like I just
did? Invest five minutes today to sign up, and then from time to time
you, too, can help bombard congress and pressure them into doing the
right thing with your money.”

Subject: Big Business Loves Big Government

Politicians tell us that government protects the people from the
cut-throat practices of Big Business. But in truth, Big Government is
in bed with Big Business. If I were CEO of a major corporation -
let’s call it the Big Widget Corporation - I would love Big
Government. That’s because I could:

lobby Congress to subsidize the widget industry, explaining how
vital widgets are to the economy.

lobby for tariff protection against imported widgets. This will
allow my company to gouge American consumers with higher prices.

lobby for regulations that would drive my smaller competitors out of
business.

But what is good for the Big Widget Corporation’s shareholders isn’t
necessarily good for the American taxpayers, who must pay for this
special treatment. That’s why we want the Big Government-Big Business
marriage to end in divorce. We can break up the marriage by changing
the way Congress does things.

John Shadegg’s Enumerated Powers Act would would require Congress to
reference the specific clause(s) of the U.S. Constitution that grant
them the power to enact the law they are considering. Because the
Constitution doesn’t authorize Congress to subsidize industries or
grant special favors for particular businesses, Congress will have an
impossible time justifying special-interest legislation. Tell
Congress to pass the Enumerated Powers Act
here.

Downsize DC’s One Subject at a Time Act would prevent Congress from
adding unpopular or special-interest legislation into otherwise
popular and much-needed bills. You can tell Congress to introduce
this bill here.

Downsize DC’s Read the Bills Act (RTBA) would prevent bad provisions
and special favors from sneaking into bills at the last minute. If
you have not sent a message to Congress telling them to introduce the
RTBA, or haven’t done so in a while, you can do so
here.

You can also help us by joining the Read the Bills Act coalition.
Visitors to your blog or website will see our web-ad, which will take
them to the RTBA campaign page where they will learn more. In turn,
we will link to your site at our blog and announce your membership in
a Downsizer-Dispatch. For information on joining the Coalition, click here.
This week we welcome three new members to the Coalition:

Finally, over the past two weeks the House passed 28 bills totaling
725 pages, while the Senate passed 29 bills totaling 286 pages. A
list of these bills can be found

Thank you for being a DC Downsizer.

What is wrong with the US dollar?

April 26, 2008 by Ryan Mann Staff Writer

Do you want to know why prices for things are going up in the United States? Well, the prices are not actually going up. Watch this video for a summary of the real problem. No, the Federal reserve is not a government agency, and no, it wasn’t created because of the depression. After watching the video, click to tell congress to end the inflation tax.

John McCain’s presidential bid may end soon.

April 23, 2008 by Ryan Mann Staff Writer

According to a Washington Post article, John McCain has spent more than the 54 million dollar limit imposed by the federal matching campaign system. Some Ron Paul supporters have been sending around a complaint form that people can get notarized and send to the FEC. The hope is that if enough people send complaints to the FEC, the agency will take notice. The form can be found here.

good riddance to the GOP!!

April 21, 2008 by Ryan Mann Staff Writer

I don’t usually take either the GOP or the democratic party seriously. However, in 2007 and 2008 I worked to support a GOP candidate named Ron Paul because he had some good ideas. I wondered why he was running on the GOP ticket. I figured that republicans are just religious fanatics, war mongers, and corporate welfare supporting idiots. Then Ron Paul talked about the “traditional” republicans. He talked about how these “traditional” republicans believed in a humble foreign policy, low taxes, and following the constitution. Maybe there is enough of these “traditional” republicans still around for him to have a chance at the GOP nomination, I thought. Because of this, I joined the USF Ron Paul meet up, gave information to the students and other locals about Ron Paul, and registered as a republican in order to vote for him in the Florida GOP primary. However, it seems that the modern GOP doesn’t want Ron Paul supporters. I will paste information below about the Pasco County GOP and Ron Paul supporters.
An ongoing spat between supporters of Republican presidential candidates John McCain and Ron Paul flared again Thursday, when pro-Paul dissidents were kicked out of a Pasco County GOP Executive Committee meeting.

Sofie Lefebvre, a Paul supporter, said a sheriff’s deputy escorted her and her husband out of the Land O’Lakes Senior Center, where the meeting was held.

Their offense?

They are Republicans who don’t support presumptive nominee McCain. Though McCain’s nomination is all but assured by delegate count, Paul is still in the race.

“It’s this little nasty game going on,” Lefebvre said. “This isn’t America where you don’t let your own people into meetings. This is absolute fascism.”

Bill Bunting, the committee’s chairman, said it was a “special” meeting open only to precinct committee members, and he did not want any disruption of a busy organizational session.

“We had a limited number of seats,” he said. “Sheriff’s deputies will be hired from time to time. We’re not going to have interference from people who are not members yet.”
http://waronyou.com/2008/…
not going to have interferance from people who are not members yet? I bet they would let a rat in if It could sing “bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran.” What abunch of junk!! To you republicans, give me one reason why anybody should support your party in any way? I’ll probably vote for Bob Barr if he gets the Libertarian party’s nomination.

Nancy Pelosi, you’re fired!

April 12, 2008 by Ryan Mann Staff Writer

I think that most Americans know that the democratic and republican parties have been bought out by special interest groups. It’s time to do something about that. A way to start solving this problem is by firing the elite politicians, one at a time. Let’s start with a woman named Nancy Pelosi. She has such an elite attitude that she refused to talk to a mother of a soldier who died in Iraq. This mother’s name is Cindy Sheehan and she is running against Nancy Pelosi for congress. According to a News Week article, Nancy Pelosi has already raised $5 million. Let’s give Nancy Pelosi’s campaign a run for their money. Supporters of the presidential candidate Ron Paul did really well when it came to raising money. We did these things called money bombs in which certain dates were set for supporters to donate a bunch of money on those days. On one of those days, we raised over $6 million in one day. I’m proposing one of these money bombs for the Cindy Sheehan for congress campaign. I’m proposing a May 11th money bomb. Why the 11th? I pick the 11th because the September 11th attacks are being used as an excuse for the continued loss of the American People’s civil liberties. I’m confident that if Cindy Sheehan was elected to congress, she would fight for the American people’s civil liberties. Yes, she has some liberal views, but she is an average person that would be willing to listen to her constituents unlike the elite Nancy Pelosi. If a million people donated $10 on May 11th, that adds up to $10 million. I guess Nancy’s special interests would have to figure out how to compete with that. Imagine that, an average person who cares about the American people successfully competing with a baught and paid for elite. Some people reading this may be thinking that it’s OK to lose some civil liberties as long as you’re safe. It has been said that those willing to sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither and will get neither. Cindy’s campaign web site can be found here

Jesse Ventura, The United States is moving towards fascism

April 9, 2008 by Ryan Mann Staff Writer

Former governor Jesse Ventura said on Fox News that the United States is in fascism right now. Watch the interview.
Jesse Ventura should run for president of the United States either this year or in 2012. Somebody needs to question the official story of 9/11 since it is being used as an excuse to violate people’s rights and make people stand in lines like sheep at airports.

Republican party shuns new ideas

April 5, 2008 by Ryan Mann Staff Writer

The majority of Americans are against the United States government’s occupation in Iraq. According to a recent New York Times poll, 80% of Americans believe that the country is going in a wrong direction in general. One would think that in these conditions, the Republican Party would be trying to bring new people into it’s party. Instead, the GOP seems to be cracking down on new converts if they are not in lock step with the Bush administration. Below is an e-mail from the Florida Ron Paul group about Ron Paul supporters being shunned for supposedly not being republicans.

Importance: High

Please read below as another account from the Republican Party of Florida as written by the Orlando Meet-up Group Leader, Nick Egoroff. He has been a true patriot and inspiration and has been fighting (in a good way) to make changes within his local REC.

As many of you know, this happened several weeks ago in the Pasco Republican Executive Committee where Ron Paul Supporters were brought up to the front of the room and berated in front of the entire 100+ REC members in attendance that night by the REC Pasco Chairman Bill Bunting (I had the pleasure of being one of the lucky ones to receive the public scolding in front of the crowd).

Per Bunting’s words: “Ginny, we want to bring up the new members, but before we do that I’ll make it very clear and very straight. There are some people that are coming on from the Ron Paul Campaign, and they’re trying to come on the committee, and what they have done ah… we have hit their web sites and we have all the information and I’m going Tuesday to Tallahassee to bring it to the State Party. They are livid about this. They are absolutely livid and that’s why there is a conference call right now as we take it. All of you will be able to pull it off, the Vice Chairman has pulled it off last night (information from web sites/meet-up groups). I’m going to turn the gavel over to him in a minute, and then I’m going to address and swear it in, then I’ll make some discussion when it comes to a certain point. We’re going to put number members on first, in order, and then we’ll have discussion when I bring it to the floor. We’re going to go ahead and vote on new members…”

We knew from the way this meeting/attack was held (and the other things said at the meeting), they were infiltrating our meet-up groups, getting our e-mails and more.

It seems the Republican Party of Florida is going after all RP supporters now and not bringing on new members as I am hearing this trend through various other REC groups. They obviously feel we are a real threat to take such drastic measures - which in a way is a good thing because we are making some progress if these people are worried.

The next thing we need to do is find out if they can legally deny people from joining the party because they favor one Republican over another as well as suggestions for courses of action and ideas to push onward. Any suggestions, help, or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for being such incredible Patriots and expressing the love and desire to want to help your country. It is because of us we will make history.

Subject: Orange County Republican Party Slams Door On New Members!

Just Posted this Recap Of Last Nights Orange County Republican Party in Orlando. More details to follow. Nick Egoroff

Having previously been welcomed by the Orange County Republican Executive Committee (OCREC), we were surprised at last night’s monthly meeting. The evenings activities started with the usual perfunctory items such as committee reports, accepting ‘minutes’ of last month’s meeting, and other business.

What also happens at these meetings is the ‘voting’ of new precinct committee people. This is normally no big deal. Basically, come to two consecutive month’s meetings and on the third month be put on a ballot to be appointed at precinct committee person for the area of town you live in. I’ve been attending these monthly meetings for about the last six months. Each meeting little slips of paper were passed around with new people wanting to be appointed to these positions.

It was always considered that people were accepted without question to be Republican party precinct captains (Florida chooses to call them Committee Men and Women, perhaps to give a more ceremonious title to a grassroots activist). Tonight it was different.

Unbeknownst to us, certain people within the OCREC decided that they would circulate a secret sample ballot showing which new precinct committee people were guilty of supporting Republican Presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul. This unsigned smear job called these Republicans “EXTREMIST ATTACKER’S OF OUR ORGANIZATION” and “DISLOYAL TO THE PARTY”. Strong statements that are no where near the truth.

Like I said this sample ballot was secretly distributed. We would have known nothing of this underhanded tactic except for the eagle eyes of one of our supporters noticing the Mayor Rich Crotty was dutifully marking NO next to each name on the ballot that corresponded to each supposed Ron Paul supporter on the smear sheet. Mind you, that Mayor Crotty rarely attends these meetings and hasn’t talked to anyone of the new Republican precinct committee persons up for consideration. Vote NO, ask questions later.

In all the many months that I have gone to this meeting, I have never seen such an underhanded attempt to shut out new voters to the Republican party. If they had questions as to our loyalty to our party, WHY THE HECK DIDN’T THEY ASK US??

It now appears that fear is gripping the Republican party. Anyone that is not in LOCKSTEP with them will be thrown out on the street. And this in an election year?? Doesn’t sound like a good way to win votes to me!

I have called and spoken with many of my contacts within OCREC. Some were saddened by what took place last night. Others basically said, “Sorry, but we don’t need you.” I am personally shocked that the party that I grew up with (supporting Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, etc.) has turned into a snobbish affair.

Am I mad right now? You bet! To be asked to choose between friends that I have in the Republican party and friends that I want to bring into the party is very challenging. I think it is high time to ask the question whether the Republican party really wants to win in November! The Democratic party is rallying it’s base. The Republican party seems to want to alienate anyone that might come in with even nary ONE NEW IDEA!!

What’s it to be? We now know that the Orange County Republican Party is snooping through our group, reading our emails and even infiltrating our group with spies. They think it is sport to see how they can shut out new activists. Lew Oliver is the Chairman of the county executive committee. His number is 407-342-2449 (published in the OCREC newsletter and he’s told me it’s okay to call). Why not call him up and politely ask if you can join his exclusive club.

See you next month. And I dare ANYONE to tell me I’m not good enough to be a REPUBLICAN!

Post Script… I just got off the phone with Lew Oliver. We had a long conversation about his perception that we didn’t really support Republicans. I tried to explain that we did indeed support Republican principles, but that we did have honest differences of opinions on the direction the party is taking. Surprising thing? Chairman Oliver and I really had a tough time finding some principle that we disagreed on. Believe it or not it’s true. Ask him.

He made clear that he would circulate every last email I have written, xerox every email that anyone in the Orlando Ron Paul Meetup ever wrote and distribute those freely, ” in the court of public opinion.” I asked him if we could have a chance to respond to the ‘cut and paste’ of our every utterance. He said he would think about it. I also reminded that as he was a lawyer, wasn’t it the right of the defendant to face his accuser?” He laughed and said, “I don’t have to do anything.” True I said, but it would seem to me that people that were willing to volunteer their time and money to joining the party might be accounted the opportunity to at least answer a smear campaign mounted by members of their own party. He said he would think about contacting those of you blackballed in last nights election. Let me know if you receive such a communication.

Again I publicly state (are you listening Chairman Oliver?) that the Republican party is the last hope for us freedom loving patriots to effect political change. We have much to learn and much to give. It is a shame that the hand of friendship is so quickly (and blindly) brushed aside.

April fools

April 2, 2008 by Ryan Mann Staff Writer

The previous post was an April fools joke. However, it made the point that America needs to be taken back from the special interests. One way to help do this is to change the way congress writes legislation. Tell congress to pass the Read the Bills Act and the One Subject at a time Act. These bills will make it harder for lobbiests to get stuff snuck into unrelated bills. Go to downsizedc.org for more information.
